Coming off of two straight victories the Wizards are making strides to claim a seeded spot in this seasons playoffs. After playing the Cavs at home yesterday afternoon they faced the visiting Philadelphia 76ers who were without rookie center Jahlil Okafor.
The 76ers were trailing for a good portion of the first half, and really didn’t have an answer for the Wizards defensively. That was until the third quarter when the Wizards got very complacent and lost their focus. Right out of the gate went on a 19-4 run early in the third quarter. For a while the Wizards didn’t have an answer, and weren’t clicking offensively or defensively.
The Sixers extended their run to 24 – 4 which seemed to smell like the beginning of the end for the red, white and blue.
However, they would not go away quietly a three point jumper by the veteran Jared Dudley gave the Wizards a spark, and they started to fight their way back into the game. The Wizards tied up the game at 74 , but it didn’t last long because of the outstanding play by former Wizard Ish Smith who dropped 25 on the night. But John Wall was not about to be out done by his former teammate at home.
When the fourth quarter came that’s when the Wizards turned it all around in their favor and Wall led the charge with a 14-0 run. Wall also dropped 37 with 4 rebounds and 7 assists. Not only that but Gortat came up big tonight and dropped 18 points with a career high 20 rebounds. It was an uphill comeback all throughout the fourth quarter and the Sixers cut the lead down to six with less than 1:30 left to go in the game. However, the Wizards were able to hold on to win and outscored the Sixers 37 to 26 in the fourth quarter that led them to a 116 to 108 victory.
