With less than 50 days before the start of the 2015 NFL season a lot of people are starting to give reasons as to why their team is going to have a break out year. Or a bounce back year for certain teams.
I believe that the Redskins and Quarterback Robert Griffin III will return to their old form in 2015. Under the leadership of 2nd year head coach Jay Gruden RG3 will be a little more comfortable in the new offense that he has had one year of experience with. Entering the 2nd of the Jay Gruden coaching era ESPN.com has reported that Robert looks a lot more acquainted in the offense as opposed to last year. With training camp beginning this week it will be a definite confidence booster.
This offseason has given him a chance to connect more with his coaches, receivers, Running Backs and Offensive line. With the offseason additions in free agency I believe that the Defense this year will be a lot better than last years. The Redskins have added Terrance Knighton, Stephen Pae, Cris Culliver, Dashon Goldson, and Duke Ihenacho to upgrade the defensive side of the ball. Also in this years NFL Draft they drafted arguably the best Offensive Lineman in Brandon Scherff who will potentialy start at Right Tackle. Further more the Redskins have also acquired 3rd round pick Matt Jones at Running Back out of the University of Florida and 4th round pick at Wide Receiver Jamison Crowder out of Duke University. With these additions on the offensive side of the ball RG3 should have more options to throw to and he should take fewer hits.
Now that we have established that. I believe that the Redskins this season in order to have great success they have to get back to Running the ball aggressively and effectively. I believe that Alfred Morris who is entering a contract year should explode this season! Also Matt Jones who stands at 6ft 2 inches tall and weights in at 230 pounds will be a force to wrecking with this season when it comes to third down situations during games. He will definitely take some of the pressure off of Alfred Morris as we watch him perform during the pre-season.
Besides the offense however the defense is something that you may want to keep your eyes on as well. As I stated earlier the Redskins definitely have upgraded the secondary during this offseason. Last season they gave up a lot of down the field plays and really couldn’t do anything to stop it. However this year I am predicting based on the players acquired during the offseason opposing offenses will find it a lot more difficult to do so.
One thing that should give the Redskins another confidence boost is the fact that everyone that is returning from last year is coming into training camp healthy. Although the Redskins have reported that Ryan Kerrigan has a minor knee procedure done, but is good to go for training camp. In years past certain key players have suffered injuries during the regular season that would prevent or limit them from participating in most of the offseason team activities leading up to training camp.
However that is not the case this year. With the Redskins about to enter their third day of training camp. The tone is being set and the foundation is being laid for year number two under head coach Jay Gruden. I’m looking forward to a great season. Lets get it started!!! #HTTR
