Redskins Defense Leads Them to A Win on The Road against the Bucs

UPPER MARLBORO, – You would think based off the stat sheet that the Redskins lost their second consecutive in a row, but thanks to a fourth quarter touchdown catch by Josh Doctson that gave the Redskins the 16-3 win.

After a bad loss at home against the Falcons the Redskins went on the road to face a Buccaneers team that decided to make another quarterback change just a week ago.

The Redskins defense needed to come out and rectify one of their most unproductive home performances this season, and today they did just that will four turnovers over the course of the game.

Josh Norman kicked things off with a nice interception in the red zone.

Even with the defense having a bounce back game, things were not so easy on the offensive side of the ball. Last week, two of the Redskins starting offensive lineman Shawn Lauvao and Brandon Scherff were lost last week due to season ending injuries.

Pro bowl left tackle Trent Williams will be out of action for a while after getting surgery on his thumb.

Last season, the Redskins experienced a lot of injuries within the offensiveline which made it tough to game plan week to week. However, on Sunday against Tampa Bay they were able to pull it together.

“Can’t say enough about that offensive line, they battled through it” said head coach Jay Gruden via Redskins.com.

The Redskins defense also recovered two fumbles and rookie DB Greg Stroman had an interception.

Although it is good to get the win. This team knows that they will not be able to get away with these types of wins all the time. It rarely happens in the NFL for a reason.

“We just hung in there” said Gruden “I think the turnover battle is critical.”

For most of this season the recipe for winning has been, run the ball for over 100 yards and play an aggressive style of defense that causes turnovers that could potentially end games.

Even though the bell cow Adrian Peterson didn’t rush for over 100 yards this week and Alex Smith had another game where he passed for below 200+ yards, this team found a way to win.

Their next challenge, however, is a different beast with mobility, and that is the visiting Houston Texans led by second year quarterback DeShaun Watson.
