This years Sugar Bowl was a rematch of last year’s national championship game between Alabama and Clemson. However, the outcome was a lot different in comparison to what happened last year, because this years match-up has been brewing inside the minds of the many members of the Alabama football team. Last year the crimson tide lost to the tigers in a tight national championship game that ended 35-31, but haunted them until yesterday.
Not only that, but in their last regular season game against SEC rival Auburn, the crimson tide lost 26-14. This was a loss that nobody saw coming, and added more fuel to the burning fire that was inside the hearts of those same Alabama football players.
Alabama wanted to come out and make a statement, and they did just that from start to finish. Their defense dominated the entire game and shut down freshman standout quarterback Kelly Bryant.
” We lost our identity” said coach Nick Saban.
Alabama’s defense got back to its usual form after getting some key players back from injury.
For the first time ever, this year’s national championship game will feature two teams from college football’s most well-known conference, the South Eastern Conference (SEC). It will be interesting to see how Georgia matches up with Alabama, because both of these teams like to run the ball and punish you with a hard-hitting defense.
Sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 120 yards passing and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 40 yards. Junior wide receiver Calvin Ridley caught four passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.
The National championship game is set for next Monday January 8th at 8 p.m.
