Redskins Upset Seahwks In A Nail Biter

The Washington Redskins defeated the Seattle Seahawks in a HUGE upset win 17-14. The Redskins were without ten of their starters which was one of the main reasons why many people didn’t give them a chance to win the game.

Despite that the Redskins are now back at .500, and seem to have found a way to adjust to life without some key contributors on both sides of the ball.

Kirk Cousins passed for 247 yards with no interceptions, and led his team down the field on a late game winning drive where he made two huge throws to get his team in striking distance.

The first one was to wide receiver Brian Quick on a corner route. The Redskins picked up Quick in free agency this past offseason, and yesterday Quick came through when his team needed him to make a play.

Veteran tight end Vernon Davis who is no stranger to playing against the Seahawks from his days as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. Davis has stepped up in a big way in the absence of Jordan Reed and Niles Paul who were both out with injuries this week. Davis caught six passes for 72 yards.

Another guy that showed up in crunch time was Josh Doctson. A first round pick last year that Redskin fans have been waiting to show up ever since the season started. Doctson has shown flashes of big play ability, but he hasn’t been consistent enough. Cousins will need Doctson to show up more if the Redskins want to have a shot to compete for a playoff spot.

The big plays downfield have helped the Redskins in the past, and they need to incorporate it more into the offense to keep opposing defenses honest.

Statistically this was not the best performance put on by the offense, but the defense stepped up big time against an offense led by Russell Wilson who is very hard to beat at home. Veteran defensive back DeAngelo Hall returned to the field after tearing his ACL in week 3 of last season. His presence and veteran savy brought more life to the Redskins secondary.

Also, the Redskins front five got a lot of pressure on Wilson throughout the game forcing him to give the ball up for grabs, and neutralizing Wilsons ability to make big plays downfield, and stuffed the Seahawks run game making them one dimensional for the majority of the game.

This was a big win for the burgundy and gold, and it was a huge confidence boost as well.

Next week the Redskins take on the Minnesota Vikings who are currently one of the top teams in the NFC. Standing at 6-2 the Vikings have a good run game and a passing game that gives defensive coordinators migranes throughout the week ans during gameday.

It will be interesting to see how these two teams match up with each other.
