Now many have known the Redskins to not be up to par when it comes to playing under the primetime spotlight, but tonight’s 27-10 win over the Oakland Raiders said otherwise. The Redskins are now in second place in the NFC East at 2-1 after many had thought they would be the worst team in the division.

It all started when rookie DB Montae Nicholson picked off Raiders QB Derek Carr on the first drive of the game, allowing the Redskins offense to turn that turnover into a 7-0 lead. From that point on it was all Washington.

Kirk Cousins would throw for 356 passing yards, three touchdowns, and had a QBR of 150.7. The first of Cousins three touchdowns went to Chris Thompson who has been balling ever since the season started, and had 188 all purpose yards.

The second went to veteran TE Vernon Davis who stepped up in place of the injured Jordan Reed.

The last touchdown catch was to a guy that a lot of fans and people within the Redskins organization have been waiting for to show up. Second year WR Josh Doctosn “Mossed” former Redskins CB David Amerson for the third touchdown of the night for the Redskins giving them a 21-0 lead.

“I can’t say enough about the domination of the defense” said Cousins.

The Redskins defense showed up big tonight holding the Raiders offense to just 95 yards and 0-11 on third down conversions. A huge improvement from last season when the Redskins defense was at the bottom of the league standings.

We all know how the old saying goes “defense wins championships” and it looks like after tonights performance that the Redskins defense have found a new attitude under new defensive coordinator Greg Manusky.

It will be interesting to see if they can keep this level of play up heading into next weeks game against the Kansas City Chiefs, who as of this moment are still undefeated at 3-0.
