Last night concluded the preseason for the Redskins, and now the real work begins in preparation for week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
During the beginning of the preseason the Redskins showed a bit of rust on offense, but the defense is what stood out the most. With the addition of CB Josh Norman, the defense seems to have this new-found attitude with a lot of aggression behind it.
In the first preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, the Redskins had a lot of penalties that contributed to them loosing 23-17. QB Kirk Cousins went 5 for 5 for 39 yards in that game with a QBR of 99.2.
In the second preseason game against the Jets Cousins did not play, but Colt McCoy and 6th round rookie draft pick Nate Sudfeld did. McCoy went 13/16 for 159 yards with 2 Touchdowns and 1 interception. While Sudfeld threw 10/20 for 77 yards and 1 Touchdown.
The final score was 22-18.
The third preseason is and has always been the most important preseason game for the starters. This is when the coaches can see how their starters will perform come week 1. At the beginning of the game the Redskins offense started off really slow, but as the first half went on they seemed to get into a rhythm and QB Kirk Cousins went 12/23 for 188 yards 3 Touchdowns and 1 interception.
He did a good job of spreading the ball around to all of his weapons on offense, which included Desean Jackson, Jordan Reed, Pierre Garcon, Vernon Davis etc.
Going back to last nights game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Twenty six players for the Redskins didn’t travel with the team to Tampa Bay, and it was mainly guys that already have a solidified spot on the roster. The game conditions for the game however were in a word, wet!
Even still that didn’t stop the Redskins from rushing for over 200 yards with the help of Robert Kelley and Mack Brown. Head Coach Jay Gruden and General Manager Scot McCloughan have a lot of tough decisions to make after last nights 20-13 win, but rest assured the 53 man roster will be ready for week 1 at FedEx Field.
