Arguably the biggest decision that NBA fans have been waiting for ever since the beginning of this past NBA season. Everyone wanted to know when and where Kevin Durant would take his talents if he decided to leave Oklahoma City.
He had many possible landing spots like The Wizards, Warriors, Spurs, Thunder, Celtics, Clippers, Knicks & Miami. One of the things that surprised me was the fact that he wouldn’t even visit his home town team in the Washington Wizards. Me personally, I think that him John Wall and Bradley Beal would make a formidable force in the Eastern Conference. But I guess Durant wanted to go on a different path. Nonetheless it didn’t stop their for the former league MVP.
On his visit with the Los Angeles Clippers, Kevin Durant left the meeting blown away according to ESPN NBA Insider Chris Broussard. However the very next day Kevin Durant made it clear that he will not be signing with the Clippers. After that the only three other options were to stay in Oklahoma City (which is what many wanted) or to sign with the Warriors or Celtics.
Its not about just the money with Durant, its also about winning a championship.
In terms of money though it was a good move by Durant and here’s why. According to an article on SBNation.com written by Jason Patt & Mark Hinog, they explained that “by taking a shorter deal, Durant put himself in a position to earn far more money over the remainder of his career.” Now the only thing left for him to do is put the pen to the paper and get to work on preparing for next season with his new team.
The western conference in my mind has just entered its worst nightmare in terms of having an even more superstar squad in the Golden State Warriors. Is it safe to say that they’ll win the chip next year?
Only time will tell.
