Thank You Mike Tirico

One of the most recognizable and entertaining voices in the sports broadcasting industry is leaving the worldwide leader in sports. ESPN’s Mike Tirico according to multiple reports will be leaving ESPN to go to NBCSports once his contract expires later this summer. He has been with ESPN since 1991 as a play-by-play commentator, studio and ESPN Radio Host. Most known for his role on “Monday Night Football” he along with former NFL Head coach and Super Bowl Champion Jon Gruden do a great job every football season at covering all the Monday night games. Tirico is also known for covering the NBA, College Basketball & Football, Tennis and Golf.

It is also noted that back in 2010 & 2014 Tirico covered the FIFA World Cup events in South Africa and Brazil.

Tirico started his sports broadcasting career at Syracuse University where his is a proud alum. In fact before he came to ESPN Tirico worked in Syracuse, NY where he was the sports director at WVTH-TV and play-by-play voice announcer for the Syracuse basketball, football, lacrosse and volleyball.

Also over the course of his career he has received many accolades. He was named the 2010 Sportscaster of the year by the National Sportscasters & Sports Writers Association. He has also been nominated for an Emmy, received the 2011 Harrah’s Sports Broadcaster of the year award, and was named the top local Sportscaster by the Syracuse Journal.

It is safe to say that Mike Tirico is an original and that it will be hard to emulate what he has done over the course of his career. His work ethic, knowledge of numerous sports and ability to cover them puts him as one of the elite Sports Broadcasters today. Many young aspiring Broadcasters who want to get on his level in their careers could learn a lot by watching and listening to him. I have been watching him for a long time and learn something new every time I tune in to watch him on Monday Night Football and all the other sports that he has covered over the course of his career.

He is truly an all-time great!
