In the meeting between these two teams earlier in the season it was a totally different atmosphere. The Wizards ran away with that game.
However, tonight was a different story. In the beginning of the game the Wizards trailed all throughout the first half, but kept it interesting. A late rally just before the half by the Wizards gave hope to their fight for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
With just seconds left on the clock before the halftime buzzer sounded off John Wall put up a shot that seemed to slow down time, but when it went through the basket it broughht a roar in thr Verizon Center.
At that point the game was tied at 62 all.
When the second half started you could immediately tell that their was a differnce in the way the Wizards were playing. Offensively they were taking good open shots and really did a good job of moving the ball around. Despite all that the Timberwolves still weren’t that far behind. Late in the fourth the Timberwolves rallied back with plenty of time left on the clock for the Wizards to take the lead again, but fell short.
Overtime was nothing short of excitement and suspense. It was a back and forth battle that at times seemed like it would never end. However, in the second overtime period Bradley Beal had a chance for a game winning three point attempt and missed.
There was an emphasis on making sure that Beal got as much attempts as he could and those hopes came to pass as Beal put up 26 points, 4 boards and 5 dimes. His teammates John Wall and Otto Porter Jr both had double-double numbers. Wall had 22 points, 3 boards , 16 dimes while Porter had 14 points with 13 boards and 1 dime.
Despite their heroic efforts tonight the red, white and blue were not able to pull out the win. Now their chances of getting above that 8th playoff sport are slipping away just a little bit more. “We’ve got to help ourselves” said Head coach Randy Wittman in his post game press conference. Emphasising that in order for the Wizards to make the playoffs they have to find a way to win tough games, and not depend on other teams.
The final score was 132-129.
