Tonight the Wizards returned home after a good road win against the Indiana Pacers. The good knews coming into this game was that Marcin Gortat made his return to the lineup tonight. Gortat had been dealing with an infection in his knee ever since the game before they faced the Orlando Magic on January 9th. So it was very interesting to see how he would play, but also how many minutes he would be playing.
During the first half the Wizards looked really sharp on offense, and did a great job of sharing the ball and taking great shots. The Celtics however came out pretty strong as well. From three point range early on they looked to be unstoppable. However, with some halftime adjustments by Head Coach Randy Wittman the Wizards defense sharpened up. Offensively in the second half the game got real tight, and almost became like a boxing match between two heavy weights. Both teams were trading blow for blow , shot for shot all throughout the second half.
With less than a minute to go the Celtics had the lead, but the Wizards would not go away lighlty. After a few controversial, and questionable calls the Wizards rallied back and tied the game up at 117 all. However, a late layup by Jae Crowder sealed the game as time expired.
Even in defeat the Wizards put up good numbers, and showed fight tonight. John Wall finished with 36 points, 13 assists and 7 steals. Temple had 12 points with 3 assists and Gortat had 18 points in his return. On Monday night the Trail Blazers come to DC for a showdown with the Wizards at 2 P.M.
