What a season it has been for arguably the worst division in the NFL. All the ups and downs, twists and turns, injuries etc. Where I will begin is with my Redskins. Head Coach Jay Gruden at the end of the preseason announced that Kirk Cousins was going to be the starter heading into the regular season.
Now I will admit that I was on the fence about it at first because Kirk in his previous starts was good, but not great. Also, he had a reputation of throwing interceptions at the wrong time during games. However I had to step back for a second to pause and think about how he did in preseason. I have to admit that I was impressed however despite my reservations.
Fast forwarding to the current state of the NFC East. The Redskins are in first place despite being below .500, and know that is not a typo. The whole division is under .500 and the division title is still up for grabs. With a win over the Chicago Bears today the Redskins continue to strive for a spot in the playoffs. In order to do so they have to win the rest of their games. Should be easy right? One would think.
Next they play the Buffalo Bills who lost against fellow division rival Philadelphia Eagles. Then after that they play at the Eagles, then at Dallas to finish off the season. Not an easy task in front of the Burgundy and Gold, but it can be done. Here are the keys to getting to a proverbial 9-6 season that could potentially get them back into the playoffs in my opinion.
- Don’t turn the ball over
- Have a consistent run game
- Take advantage of turn overs forced by the defense
- PLAY WITH PASSION
