Mayweather vs Pacquiao

May 2, 2015 was a day that was five years in the making. The long anticipated fight of the century was here at the worlds door step at long last. Many people had their opinions and reasons as to which fighter would win Saturday nights bout between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao .

All the boxing greats and officiates of the world for the past few months before the fight were giving their expertise on the pros and cons of each fighter. For example many people said that Floyd’s defense was to great for any fighter to get passed. While others came back and advocated that Manny Pacquiao’s punching power was so great that he would be able to knock out the ring magician that is Floyd Mayweather Jr.

However during the fight Floyd was the one that threw and landed more punches than Manny did. Even though Manny caught Floyd on a few occasions during the bout it wasn’t enough. The bout went all twelve rounds and it came to a unanimous decision that was given to Floyd “Money” Mayweather. A lot of people think that Manny Pacquiao should have won the fight based on being the aggressor, but as I stated before he didn’t land that many punches. Then during the post fight press conference Manny made it known that he had an injured right shoulder that was going to need surgery.

Many people thought that he was just using that an excuse as to why he lost, but according to the Nevada Athletic Association Manny Pacquiao requested a shot to before the fight to help numb the pain. However his request was denied because he did not make his injury known until the night of the fight. He still went out there and gave it his best shot though so I commend him for that.

However I feel that him bringing the injury to the media’s attention took away from the fight in a sense because now people think that the only reason Floyd won was because Manny wasn’t 100% healthy. Floyd also made it known that both of his shoulders were injured and he still went out there and fought. In the end the professional’s have to  suck it up and fight through the pain which both of them did, but no one wants to hear any excuses.
