Troy Polamalu Retires

Many have thought that this day would never come. However we all know that we can’t stop the inevitable. On April 9, 2015 long time Pittsburgh Steelers Strong Safety Troy Polamalu announced his retirement from the NFL!

Polamalu spent his entire career with the Steelers and won two Superbowls with them. ( Superbowl XL, and XLIII) He was also an 8x pro-bowler and had a reputation of leaving fans with jaw dropping moments. I can remember very distinctly how he got the nick name “Super Troy”! It was during a game when the Steelers were playing against the Tennessee Titans. It was during a goal line situation where the Titans were trying to score and Troy was lined up in the box. Then he started to creep in between the defensive line to try to anticipate the snap count.

As the ball was snapped he jumped over the Titans offensive lineman and sacked the quarterback. Which led people to calling him “Super Troy”! Indeed he was a super player and a great leader in my estimation. Over the course of his career he has recorded 770 tackles, 12.0 sacks, 32 interceptions, 14 forced fumbles, and 3 touchdowns. If that’s not productivity then I don’t know what is.

According to Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin he says that” Troy is a great shining example of a football man in the way he loved the game, the way he respected the game, and the way he played the game. It’s a shining example of the window into who he is.”

There will never be another one like him. Next stop for him the Hall of Fame!!! How fast he will get there remains to be seen!
