On February 11, 2015 the basketball world lost a wonderful member of its family. Coach Jerry Tarkanian was a very successful college basketball coach for the NCAA. He coached at Long Beach State, University of Nevada Las Vegas and Fresno State University. Also during his coaching career he had the opportunity to coach the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs for 20 games in the 1992-93 Season.
Coach Tarkanian had a famous nickname that he went by. He was known in the basketball world as “Tark the Shark”. He was one of the most winningest basketball coaches in history. Here are a few of his accomplishments. Coach Tarkanian attended the University of Redlands and obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Management. Also every time Coach Tarkanian started coaching a new team he would lead them to a 20 win season. That speaks volumes to how good of a coach he was to have that type of impact on many teams.
He was a very well respected man throughout the NCAA and NBA community and will truly be missed. May his legacy and teachings continue to live in the lives of those he had an impact on. Rest in Peace Coach. August 8, 1930 – February 11, 2015.
