SuperBowl was a Sunday to never forget. All the excitement was building up from the time the two respective teams won their conference. Now it was time to get it on.
The game started with the patriots on offense and the Seahawks on defense. So right off the back we would see the Legion of Boom vs The Patriots offense first. From the first snap the Seahawks defense were flying all over the field as they have done all season long. After a couple of three and outs by both teams I began to wonder who would strike first. Eventually the Patriots would strike first early in the 2nd quarter, but the Seahawks didn’t panic. During the middle of the second quarter while the Seattle offense was struggling to get some offense going they called upon their rookie free agent Wide Reciever Chris Matthews. He caught a deep play action pass that would set up the Seahawks in Patriots territory. Then to finish off the drive Russell Wilson would hand the ball off to their workhorse Marhsawn Lycnh for a 3 yard TD run that would tie up the game at 7 a peace.
The Patriots would score again to take the lead. It wasn’t until Seattle got the ball back with just enough time left on the clock to drive down the field and score another touchdown to tie the game back up at 14. Russell Wilson threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to rookie Wide Reciever Chris Matthews with 0:02 left on the clock before halftime.
When the second half began the Seahawks recieved the ball first drive down the field, but were held only to a field goal. The Seattle defense managed to keep the patriots out of the end zone for the third quarter. They seemed like they were firmly in control. Then with 4:54 left in the third quarter Russell Wilson would throw another touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin to increase their lead to 24-14.
Then the tables would be turned again when Tom Brady threw his third touchdown pass of the game to Danny Amendola, but they were still down by three. The Seahawks would get the ball back, but the Patriots defense would force a quick three and out to get the ball back. Brady would lead his team down the field and throw another touchdown to Julian Edelman with 2:02 left on the clock. Tom Brady would throw 4 touchdowns on the night.
It was clutch time once again for Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. On the first play of their next drive Wilson would throw deep to Marshawn Lynch to get them back in Patriot’s territory. Then Russell Wilson would throw to Jermane Kearse on what was the catch of the night to put Seattle in the Red Zone. The game was coming down to the wire at this point, but then the unthinkable would happen.
After a 5 yard run by Marshawn Lynch the Seahawks were set with a first and goal. Now most people would think that they would just hand the ball off to beastmode to seal the game. Sadly that wasn’t the case this time around. Head Coach Pete Carroll would call an inside slant pass to Ricardo Lockette to win the game, but it was intercepted by patriots defender Malcom Butler with :20 left on the game clock. It was a crushing defeat to say the least. The Seahawks had the game won right in their hands and then it was taken away from them.
Overall I think it was a great game from start to finish. It truely exceeded my expectations. Congragulations to the New England Patriots. Mark my words though Seattle will come back next season even stronger and more motivated. The final score was 28-24.
